Color gemstones have been likened to beautiful flowers, and fancy color diamonds to rare, exotic orchids. Like orchids, natural color diamonds are among the rarest beauties of nature.
When I first saw the striking purplish pink diamond pictured above, I knew it was an exceptional gemstone awaiting an exceptional jewelry design. The color of the diamond is an irresistible marriage of the ethereal brightness of pink with the regal richness of purple. A hue reminiscent of early raspberries - a color that is as captivating as it is rare among diamonds.
![]() An extraordinary diamond challenges you to create an extraordinary ring. As I began to play with the purplish pink diamond and work out design ideas, I realized that the best way to celebrate the natural beauty of this colorgul diamond was to surround it with a collection of beautifully cut colorless stones. I love the exotic beauty of fancy color diamonds: I equally love the captivating brilliance of well-cut colorless diamonds, especially those in irresistible, unusual shapes. |

![]() The design concept began as a series of tiers each featuring diamonds of a unique color or cut. In the center, the purplish pink diamond is set at the highest point in a bezel of polished platinum. Surrounding the purplish pink diamond is a halo of sparkling brilliant-cut colorless diamonds set at a slightly lower level. To ease the transtion from the central setting to the band of the ring, I selected two kite-shape diamonds. The kite-shape diamonds are burnish set in the polished platinum shoulders of the ring. The shoulders echo the shape of the diamonds and gracefully taper to the band. As a final touch of elegance, I parted the gallery beneath the diamonds and secreted a "forest" of intricate rose gold scrolls. The purplish pink diamond and rose gold scrolls beautifully complement each other and contrast with the brilliance of the colorless diamonds and cool white platinum. From whatever direction you view this ring you see a balance of beautiful colors, striking shapes and dazzling brilliance.
![]() The ring was hand crafted in platinum and 18kt gold. From the side you can see the care with which it was created. Note the sturdy settings that hold each of the diamonds and the depth of the ring's band throughout its circumference. The inside edge of the band has been slightly bevelled to assure the ring slides comfortably onto the finger. When creating a beautiful, heirloom-quality jewel there are no short cuts. Each detail needs to be thought out so that it enhances the aesthetics, wearability and longevity of the ring. |
![]() As with all our jewels, the inside of the ring is signed with Bijoux Extraordinaire's registered hallmark ("BEL") as well as "PLAT" for the purity of the platinum. The other side of the inner band is marked "18K" for the purity of the gold. These marks are your assurance of imaginative design, beautiful gemstones and uncompromising craftsmanship.
