Beautiful Art Nouveau cufflinks of a sea nymph amid crashing waves. The dramatically curling waves, flowing hair of the nymph, and curvaceous female form are icons of Art Nouveau design. Crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
 Art Nouveau jewelers often drew upon myths (both ancient and modern) when creating their jewels. The dramatic scene of these cufflinks may have been inspired by the sea nymph Menippe, Goddess of Strong Waves. The rich details and depth of the design are highlighted by the natural patina of the gold.
 The backs of the cufflinks are beautifully crafted. A gently curved post bridges the oval fronts and bean-shape backs. The gold is polished to a warm glow. Fine cufflinks should be as well crafted on the backs as they are on the fronts.
 These Art Nouveau cufflinks were created by one of the earliest manufacturing jewelers in the United States, George O. Street & Sons. Founded in 1837, the firm specialized in fine gentlemen's jewelry, including cufflinks, watch fobs and signet rings. The maker's mark for George O.
